Caribbean
General information
Once you consider travelling to the Caribbean, spectacular white beaches and amazingly beautiful coral are the first thoughts that cross your mind. The Caribbean are centrally located for adventurous trips to e.g. Venezuela and the USA. Cultural differences between the Caribbean and western Europe are enormous, therefore working in the Caribbean does not only bring sunshine, sea and white beaches. The differences in language, culture and healthcare organisation require a great deal of flexibility for new employees. We primarily fill in vacancies for acute hospitals.
Salaries and fringe benefits
In the Caribbean a working week of 40 hours is normal. Pension facilities are available, but will depend on your contract. The hospitals work with collective labour agreements. For on call duties or other irregularities, a standard percentage of 5% of the monthly gross salary will be paid additionally. The salaries are, in comparison with those in Europe, slightly less. However on the other hand, the tax burden is also less.
Accommodation
Most hospitals can offer temporary lodgings within their own Personnel House, until new employees find their own accommodation. Advice and guidance from the hospital will be available if required.
Languages
Besides knowledge of Dutch, basic knowledge of English, French or Spanish may be useful.
Work and residence permit
Depending on your nationality and the country you would like to work in, a work and residence permit may be obligatory. Your future employer will apply for a work and residence permit. We will advise you beforehand which documents are necessary for the application of the permits.
